Ok here is what I did when the kids were asleep and and hour before hand. Sorry about the glare! They are hanging from the laundry door on the ironing hanger! This is one of my favourite patterns..so now she has three to wear..for now!!!

I have had my eye on this pattern from Leila & Ben on Etsy for a while now. A fellow sewer on EB blogged their jacket that she made and when I followed the link I saw the pattern was once again available. So of course I had to buy it..and make it...and I love it.



I have cut it out twice more and am hoping to sew them up before we go to Perth on the weekend. Lainey looks smashing in it. Of course!!

I Heart Enid

I have a confession. I'm in love with a gal call Enid. Enid Gilchrist to be exact. She created many many pattern books between the 40s and 70s and there is something about them that I love. I cant wait to make some of them for the kids. The trick is you have to draft them...but wow how satisfying!

I found this blog...a homage to Enid. I found it through a forum discussion at Crafty Mamas. The author is a lady called Tracy. Thank you Tracy!

I look forward to sharing my "Enids" with you...

Tuesdays Achievements

Today I have made a new ironing board cover. I have only ever owned 2 ironing boards. One was given to me when I joined the army at 18 and that followed my around, starch stained cover and all, for 12 years. It was only last year that I got a new one...and I pine for my old one. It was a great ironing board with a cover and batting that somehow withstood some fairly serious abuse.

So I decided to attend to my neglected ironing board and this is what ensued.

This is poor old abused and unloved ironing board. Don't you just love the beach towel underneath!


And this is the new ironing board ! Pretty!!!



I made it using the tutorial from The Purl Bee. The fabric is from my SL haul over the weekend. I originally wanted to use my Kelani fabric but didn't order enough...how silly of me!

I really like it and I have test driven it and its great! So now perhaps I can let the memory of ironing board number one go....

Mondays Achievements

Today I managed to finish a three projects which I had started last week. I am determined to complete the things I either cut out or buy fabric for before I move on! Otherwise I will drown under fabric!

I finished Lainey and Jack's summer doonas. I bought the fabric from SL when they were having their stock take sales. The inside of the doona comes from Ikea and looks like this. I bought the queen size one. I cut it to size for the cot and for Jacks toddler bed. I overlocked the raw edges and then I covered it. Because the doona is so light I decided just to sew it up and when they need a wash the whole thing will go the machine. The doona is truely very light and will be perfect for the hot summers we get.

With Lainey's, I put a piece at the bottom which makes it like the end of a sheet. That goes around the mattress at the bottom of the cot, making sure she doesnt loose her cover or come untucked in the night! There is even enough of the original doona to make another one for Lainey's bed. I plan on doing 2 or 3 for each of the kids so I always have a clean one in the cupboard. I also want to make Jack a matching pillow slip but need to get some fabric that will match as I ran a bit low of the main fabric. I will use some of the left over fabric to match the pillow slip back to the doona.

Then tonight I completed a reversible purse. I got the pattern from here. A couple of the gals in my EB sewing group have made them and I loved them. I used some Michael Miller fabric I got from The Humming Mini and used just some black from my stash to line it. I really love this!

I went to Perth on the weekend which of course meant a trip to SL. This is what I got.

I also got my order today from Kelani. I love it and was really happy with it. So I washed all my new fabric and put it into my stash to be used up! I also received my batting for my ironing board from Autumn Threads. So I will make that tomorrow I think.

First Ever Tutorial!

After the success of my bucket hats I made for the kids some of the gals at EB asked for a tutorial, and who am I to ignore my fans!!! So its over there...to the right....let me know what you think and PLEASE let me know if there are any errors or anything I can do better. Its my first and some how making the hats was easier in my head than when I wrote it down. It sounded really hard when I wrote it out so let mew know if it can be made better.

Happy Birthday Lainey!

My darling little baby girl turns one today! I cant believe how quickly both the kids are growing up. We certainly have had a busy day.

We opened presents


went to playgroup with Jack,


made birthday cakes



and here we are now at dinner time almost. Spaghetti and yoghurt and a piece of cake. Yummy!

I love birthdays in my house - I get to spoil everyone and make cakes. I'm really am so lucky!

I made Lainey a hat on the weekend and so I wanted to make one for Jack too. This is what resulted...


I made the pattern for this myself - and then constructed it. I'm really proud of doing it from start to scratch and creating my own (not that hard) pattern! The fabric is from SL and is part of a larger piece I bought to make Jack a summery doona cover. I will hopefully be making that this week. The only problem with the hat is the rise may be a bit too tall and the brim a little wide, but I took the measurements off one he already has so we will see how it goes! I like it so much I want one for myself and i have just the fabric to make it. Also the way I made this one it is reversible, so next time I will use two different fabrics.

I bought some of this tonight Insul Bright . I have ordered some fabric from Kelani and I am going to make a new ironing board cover from this tutorial. Mine is horrible and so I thought I would like a new custom one. I like to call this week the soft furnishing week in my house! I plan to make doona covers for everyone including the cot as well as pillows and cushions. Well thats the plan but I guess you never know around here!

Happy Fathers Day!

Happy Fathers Day to all the wonderful dads out there including my own, my husband and my father in law. I hope you all have great days no matter what you are doing.

I am waiting for the boys to get home - they are on there way. To while away the time I replanted out my tomatoes (after some advice from my dad this morning. The phone goes before 8am and its my dad.."Have your beetroot's sprouted yet..mine have!".."Um no dad they haven't " (complex forms) "Oh well I'm sure its because the soil is colder out there. By the way you should repot those tomatoes. Love you, bye!"...)So after all that I decided to repot the tomatoes...and stare at the soil in the veggie patch to see if something may indeed sprout whilst I am watching...no luck.

The tomatoes are behind the iron curtain because my dog Banners has a new fav food group - manure ....so I have to protect the veggies from her!


Lainey was my little helper. Its a bit cold here today and so I put her into one of the excellent and warm, albeit 80's style suits that keeps her so warm outside. I know she isn't wearing any shoes in this pic but she pulled them off. Its her own fault then!!!! (No I had a blanket on her too and this was just before we went inside...truely I'm not that cruel!)



I also planted out some bulbs. Now I know all you green thumbs are gasping but I'm a busy woman. Anyway I will sew them and see....thats my gardening motto!

The boys will be home soon so I better get on with it. I'm making Mike his fav dinner tonight...chicken parmigiana and vanilla slice! Mmmmmm .
