The Ball Gown Project - Part Three - The End!
I am done...I finished sewing the velvet ribbon on this morning. All up I have hand sewn the lot except for a row around the hem so I could hand roll it. I also sewed on all the ribbon by hand. There are a few final touches that need doing but Tegan is coming around for a fit this afternoon and I am sure it will be perfect. She can have it back tomorrow!
I have learnt alot but boy was it a hard task....but in reflection it would not have been so hard had I know then what I know now. And hand sewing it all allowed me the ability to unpick it should it have needed it.
Now all it needs is a clean and a press - and Tegans mum will do that.

The Ball Gown Project - Part Two
OK after wrestling with my anxiety all week I am finally in a really good place with this. I would say I am about half way through, and Im pretty happy.
Heres some pics to updates you - I have hand sewn the organza one, and pinned the ribbon...tomorrow the sewing of the ribbon and the hem. Then a fitting and strap adjustment on Monday - hand back Tuesday! Thats the plan anyway!

The Ball Gown Project - Part One
I have been approached by my good friend Heidi to alter a ball gown bought for her daughter Tegan at an op shop.
The ball is in three weeks time and its about time I started.
I am nervous...very nervous...not so much because I think I cant do it but because I want to make sure I get it perfect. Nothing less than perfect.
So am I punching above my weight ...only time will tell!
The concept is to add an organza layer over the top of the dress, sewn in at the bust seam. Seems fairly straight forward.
Here is the dress...
It has a stain on the back so we decided on a layer of organza.
Here is a pinned version so you get the idea.
So Step One is to make a muslin so we can get an idea. I made one and it bunched at the hips and so I made another on the bias and it sits better.\
Now I just need to fit that overlay properly as ts bunching at the waist. I need to research and read,and I might even buy a commercial pattern in a similar concept.
Stray tuned for part two...and pray for me!
