My New Baby!

Ok so here she is - my new Janome Memory Craft 4900 QC.

Oh aint she sweet! I picked her up after a long and patient lay-by (I am so impatient!) , making the final payment with some Kruddy money. I laybyed it for $999 and it was on special - it then went back to $1700. Talk about lucky!

I love it to bits but I am a little overwhelmed Its so much more swanky than my Brother machine (which is sitting pouting in the corner). The first thing I did was make it sew little love hearts and then I wrote Jack name LOL.

I have had a look at it and figured out the basics and to be honest I think the best thing to do is sew something on it!

I has about 10 feet! The ladies also gave me some stretch needles, some bobbins and an accessories book for free - the book alone is worth $20!

I love love love it and just am so happy. I saved and laybyed and now I have the most perfect machine. I am also going to get a new overlocker from them as they let me have an extended layby as I was an excellent payer!

*insert happy sigh*

I Heart Hugh

Pic courtesy of channel4.com

I recently have been watching the latest edition to the River Cottage stable...River Cottage Autumn. I am very much enjoying it and am really interested in not only the usual display of big veg and animal husbandry but also the conservation track Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is taking this time. I know he always has been green and trying to encourage us to do more but this series is fabbo....projects like Landshare where people who have land register so those who want to work it can - should be adopted all over the world. Even a veggie plot per person could significantly reduce our strain on our planet.

Good work Hugh - keep it up!

Check out Hugh's great work here....

CWA Coobook Hand-Me-Down

My husbands family is born and bread Aussies and Mikes grand parents have a large collection of items which just scream Australian history. One of those items is the ever popular CWA Cookery Book and Household Hints. An institution since 1936 this book is full of those beautiful heart warming recipes that your Nana made. This particular copy is 33 years old. I love it and on a recent trip to my in laws MIL discovered she had two copies. One was her mums (Nana) ans the other was hers from school. So she so kindy gave me one. And I love it. I have read it twice since I got it and I am dying to make things from it.

I have the more recent CWA publication full of wonderful recipes which I have often used and referred to. I am hoping to pass this on to Lainey and start a real tradition. MIL also has an original Golden Wattle which was her Nanas.....I have asked for that to be left to me in the will :)

You can find the CWA here.... and for the WA chapter here...

Frou Frou for a Friend

After my first custom order to make frou frous for Glenda's grand daughters, another friend of mine Andrea asked me to make one for her daughter who is having a birthday in May.

I was only too happy and heres what came of it.

I hope she likes it!

Ottobre Workshop 301

I have made these for Jack...the red and blue one is for him to wear to the WA local footy where we support West Perth (Go Wests!) and the grey and black was is because at midnight I thought it would be great to start another LOL.

The black and grey one is finished on the neck line with the self fabric technique and I am so happy with it. I have also finished the bottom with a different stitch so it hasnt gone wavy.

The fabric is Colorado from the CM store and I AM SO IN LOVE. It is so lovely to sew and such a step above the SL stuff.

I am going to make both the kids more of these. I am so proud of these. I really like knit sewing.

The pics are slightly dodgy as Jack just rolled out of bed LOL. But I really wanted action shots :D

More Ottobre Tees and Leggings

Panicked at the thought of not being able to sew for 5 days I made these tonight!

The leggings and tees are the same Ottobre ones listed in a previous post...its late and I cant remember the numbers LOL!

I love the strawberry pants and tee the best - the other pair of leggings not so much. I also have not put the elastic in the waist but I have to wait until Lainey is awake to do that!

So the machine is retired for 5 days while we are away in Perth - how will I cope...I have my knitting to console me....
