Yo Ho Ho

Jack is going to the birthday party of a good friend of his on Sunday and the theme is Pirates! So of course I saw a prime opportunity to make a costume :)

I think he looks great! Its McCalls 4952. The fabric is stash poplin from when I made school dress ups. The sword and patch courtesy of Red Dot.

The picture is a little grainy - I will take some nicer ones on the day.

Mama Mia Tunics - Only 12 To Go...

You may remember me posting about the white lycra pants for the dance concert that I was sewing. Well here is the tunic top we are sewing to match it. It is the same lycra in a raglan pattern which has been adapted for a collar and silver flares. My sewing partner Onah is a dead set legend and designed all of the patterns. Then she shows me what to do and away I sew. My strength is not in pattern development but rather in sewing and I think we have complimented each other like ying and yang really.

Only 12 more to go! Roll on Nov 7th!!

Dance Concert Costumes

I have been plugging away at the costumes for the upcoming dance concert. I have 2 weeks to go and 22 outfits to go....but there are two of us and one of us doesnt have small children! So we should be ok...the concert isnt for a month but we want to finish up in two weeks to have some time up our sleeves.

The theme is ABBA - Mama Mia...lots of flares and sparkles!

Here is some of what I have been working on.

These are the last costumes we are doing as we had to wait ages for the fabric. Its a flared white lycra pant and there will be a white lycra raglan flared sleeved top to go with it. These are actually a bit fiddly and not quite the production line garment some of the others have been. There are 22 of these to make - I have completed two!

This number is one of Laineys costumes...its been drafted from a combo of patterns I had. Its a yolked flared sleeved long tunic - and will have some matching bloomers as all the little girls wearing this will be in nappies.

I am having fun doing it but am fatiguing - I also look forward to sewing time being for me. But I volunteered all of my time and I am still very happy I am doing it - but its been a long process.

Sewing for Dance

The kids attend a local dance school and I have volunteered to help sew the costumes for the final concert. The theme is Mama Mia!

I am in the process of sewing some skirts for the 6-8 years group and their theme is school girls.

I have 18 of these to do and about 60 costumes all up. I am working with a lovely woman called Onah and she is amazing. She used to teach sewing at Kent Street an Tafe...so Im pretty lucky!

I will keep you updated - heres the skirt so far.they have 2 pleats in the front and a zip at the back with a facing inside...
